Tsuru Folding Workshop (October 26)

  • JACCC - TWEC 244 San Pedro Ave Los Angeles, CA, 90012 USA (map)

Come to our next fold in to fold tsuru for solidarity and discuss Nikkei Progressives' upcoming work in solidarity with migrants.

Saturday, October 26th
Toshizo Watanabe Exhibition Center (1st floor of the JACCC)

Why are we folding tsuru?

Tsuru for Solidarity was an initiative launched in advance of the March 2019 protest at the Dilley Detention Facility in Crystal City, TX, the largest detention center in the United States, where thousands of asylum seekers are incarcerated. During WWII, Crystal City was a concentration camp for Japanese Americans and Japanese Latinx Americans.

The goal of the original Tsuru for Solidarity was to fold 1,000 cranes. Organizers received over 20,000 tsuru from around the United States. Currently, efforts to fold 125,000 paper cranes to be displayed at a larger action in Washington, D.C. are underway and we’d love your help meeting that goal!

Tsuru for Solidarity is calling on leaders to stop the cruel and inhuman immigration policies of the Trump Administration and plans to hang the cranes on the fence of the White House. Come down to the Far East Lounge in Little Tokyo, be in good company and conversation, and help build this symbolic show of support and resistance.
